Berlinale-Sonderreihe Magnum in Motion: Gäste und Programm

In Anwesenheit zahlreicher berühmter Magnum-Fotografen präsentiert die Berlinale in der Sonderreihe Magnum in Motion 33 Filme von und über die großen Fotoreporter. Das Programm umfasst Dokumentarfilme, Portraits und Kurzfilme aus aller Welt. Mit Magnum in Motion feiern die Internationalen Filmfestspiele Berlin den 60. Geburtstag der legendären Agentur und Fotografenkooperative.

"Kennzeichnend für die Arbeit von Magnum ist die kritische Sichtweise auf die großen Ereignisse unserer Zeit", sagt Berlinale-Direktor Dieter Kosslick. "Stilmittel und Ausdruckweise der Fotografen sind dabei sehr unterschiedlich und extrem persönlich."

Als Gäste werden die Fotografen und Filmemacher René Burri, Raymond Depardon, Elliott Erwitt, Martine Franck, Jean Gaumy, Bruce Gilden, Philip Jones Griffiths, Thomas Hoepker, David Hurn, Susan Meiselas, Chris Steele-Perkins, Dennis Stock und Donovan Wylie sowie Stuart Franklin, der Präsident von Magnum Photos, erwartet. Sie werden im Anschluss an die Filmvorführungen ihre Arbeiten kommentieren und sich den Publikumsfragen stellen.

Begleitend zur Filmreihe wird ein Buch in englischer Sprache veröffentlicht, das neben filmographischen Angaben einen Essay des Fotohistorikers Gerry Badger und als Besonderheit eine DVD mit fünf aktuellen Foto-Essays von Jonas Bendiksen, Elliott Erwitt, Paul Fusco, Alec Soth sowie einem Gemeinschaftsprojekt enthält. Magnum in Motion wird nach seiner Premiere bei der Berlinale auf Tour gehen und zunächst auf den Filmfestivals in Guadalajara , New York und Thessaloniki gezeigt.

Die Berliner Fotogalerie Camera Work zeigt vom 9. - 24. Februar 2007 die Fotoausstellung Magnum Photos@Camera Work, Berlin 1946 - 2006. Ca. 50 Fotografien von Magnum-Fotografen, ausschließlich über Berlin, werden ausgestellt.

Parallel zum Sonderprogramm Magnum in Motion präsentiert die Fondation Cartier Arbeiten des Magnum-Fotografen Raymond Depardon. Neben 300 Fotografien wird im Museum für Fotografie in Berlin vom 11. Februar bis zum 1. April 2007 seine filmische Installation VILLES CITIES STÄDTE zu sehen sein.

The special Berlinale series Magnum in Motion: guests and programme

Several well-known Magnum photographers will be present when the Berlinale screens 33 films by and about the agency's great photo reporters during this year's special series Magnum in Motion. The programme will include documentaries, portraits and short films from around the globe. With Magnum in Motion, the Berlin International Film Festival is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the legendary agency and photographers' cooperative.

"Characteristic for the works of Magnum is their critical take on the great events of our times", says Berlinale director Dieter Kosslick. "Yet the stylistic devices and idioms of the photographers vary greatly and are extremely personal."

The following photographers and filmmakers are expected to attend: René Burri, Raymond Depardon, Elliott Erwitt, Martine Franck, Jean Gaumy, Bruce Gilden, Philip Jones Griffiths, Thomas Hoepker, David Hurn, Susan Meiselas, Chris Steele-Perkins, Dennis Stock and Donovan Wylie as well as Stuart Franklin, President of Magnum Photos. After the screenings they will comment on their works and answer questions from the audience.

The film series will be accompanied by a booklet which will be published in English. In addition to filmographic information, it will include an essay by photo historian Gerry Badger, and a special DVD with five topical photo essays by Jonas Bendiksen, Elliott Erwitt, Paul Fusco Alec Soth and a group project.
After premiering at the Berlinale, Magnum in Motion will go on tour. To start with the series will be shown at film festivals in Guadalajara, New York and Thessaloniki.

The Berlin gallery Camera Work will also be presenting the exhibition Magnum Photos@Camera Work, Berlin 1946 - 2006 from February 9 - 24, 2007. On display will be some 50 photos of Berlin, all taken by Magnum photographers.
